been taking azathroprinefor 6 weeks ago just been told to stop taking it after a blood test shows it's affecting my liver what happens now

This does happen to some of us. I was on it a couple of years before my liver was affected. Luckily all reactions reverse once med is out of system leaving no lasting damage. They put me on methotrexate next, which for me, has caused problems, so I am no longer on it. With all new meds I was still kept on hydroxy and pred, and take just those now, for lupus. I am starting monthly steroid injections this month as my rheumy says not worth trying other hard drugs. But this is what is considered best for me. You may be different.

Hi, similar to 6161 I was taken off AZA after almost 2 years due to it causing a huge increase in my liver enzymes, came off it for 8 weeks then tried it again with more symptoms including vomitting etc before consultant said it was time to call it a day. I've now been on mycophenelate for 6-7wks and hoping it will have my SLE under control.

I was on it for years then all of a sudden blood tests showed a dramatic increase in liver enzymes. I came off it immediately and stayed off it for 18 months but then had a flare. I went back on it with close monitoring and haven't had any further problems, this was about four years ago.

Hi I used to take Azathioprene and was taken off it due to blood results similar to yours and put on Methotrexate instead as with this I take folic acid to help the liver process it and I have been better on this than with anything else, I would certainly recommend you speak to your doc and see what they say it has worked wonders for me I hope it can do the same for you,
