Hiya, I have travelled abroad since diagnosis, but limited this to a resort which was quiet and didn't require me to engage in constant activity. Basically it was a really good rest. Also, I've enjoyed travelling in this country more recently, I've either booked hotels with good facilities (i.e. luxurious beds and bedding and a bath) and aim to get somewhere with a pool and jacuzzi etc.

Overall, I try to pace myself and my partner is so very understanding and accepts that I will be exhausted when we arrive at our destination and need to rest before embarking on more leisurely pursuits.

But, hey we have to live life too, do what you can when you can and enjoy it.

Take care

Totally agree with slowmo. You have to have a life and if you were travelling right up to your diagnosis, then there shouldn't be any difference. How we all cope day to day with lupus is to just get on with life but maybe in a different way to what we were used to. Life will just go on without you, so we have to try and keep up!!! Or get left behind. Am about to ask a question re travel. If I get some replies hopefully it will be of help to you.

I travel but plan a lot. I get wheelchair assistance at airports. I sometimes use mobility scooters for large places such at Center Parcs in the Uk. I have just had to swallow my pride! I have a 15 year old son. I rest a lot. Dont let lupus stop you doing what you love. Just find different ways of doing it x

Thanku for your kind advice..

I travel extensively. I refuse to let a diagnosis alter my life in that way. Do I do things differently now that I now that it's my immune system that is causing all of the issues? Yes I do. Travel away, but prepare yourself with a clean, organic, chemical free diet as a lifestyle. That's number one. Swim as much as possible as that is the best exercise for healing without hurting your joints etc…and while on a plane, remember that the pressure changes, and fluid shifts in your body will cause pain. Prepare by taking any supplement pr meds needed for pain prior to the plane ride, and stay hydrated. I take aspirin daily, and double up before a plane ride. Keep your blood moving, and walk to the bathroom often, walk up and down the aisles. Move, shift position, and read something relaxing and inspirational. I like to listen to meditation/yoga music while flying, when my eyes tire of reading. Try to shift your focus from what you perceive is wrong with you, and what is right with you. Thoughts are the seeds of the life you create. You have lupus. Okay. You are also so much more than a diagnosis. Travel, love, live learn, experience. Eat well, care for yourself, and go out there.
