It depends on the doctor. Go prepared with copies of all the tests you've done to date and a list of symptoms graded from 1-10 in terms of criticality or pain and an indication of how often they occur. If you have nail varnish on finger and toe nails, remove it so that he/she can see whether they are affected. You'll probably be examined head to toe and in terms of mobility of joints, skin issues, hair loss, hands, feet. You'll go through the symptoms - you will probably be asked how you're feeling that day - even if you feel on top of the world by comparison to other days, you need to respond by reference to a healthy person, otherwise why would you be there. Take a list of medication with you and clarify why you take each one of them.
You may or you may not have more tests, depends on what you've already had done. You may be put on a trial of steroids or hydroxycloroquine.
Take notes if you can, you'll forget everything once you're out of there. If you have questions now, make a list and go through them with the doctor and write down the answers in the consultation - otherwise you'll forget.
Try not to think of the implications of what you're being told while you're there - focus on asking your questions and getting your answers and don't forget to ask what the plan is short, medium and long term and when will you go and see him/her again. Also what to do in the event of an emergency or if you have a question between appointments.
Good luck!
