Hi Ani. I've been using Mindfulness techniques for several years. I looked at your blog post and it seems we do pretty much the same thing. I have used both the Mindfulness & Pain Relief and the Mindfulness & Depression guided meditations.

After I had been doing it for a while I mentioned it to my GP who was thrilled. He suggested trying to move on to more fully fledged meditation, specifically the Vipassana school. He even recommended a week long retreat at a Vipassana Centre. Apparently he goes himself. I found some of their stuff online and downloaded the guided meditations and now use those as well.

Although the pain never goes away it has made me feel much more in control of it. As my doc said "The pain is inevitable, suffering is optional".

Be well.

Oh wow Stephen, you have a fantastic GP, what a complete blessing! Yes, I agree that mindfulness and meditation help a great deal with how I 'cope' with the pain. I love that line "suffering is optional"

Thank you for your comment, I do hope that more people at least give mindfulness a try.

Kind wishes

Hi Ani

Thank you very much for your blog. I have been dipping into meditation over the last 10 years and have this year been introduced to mindfulness (found it very similar) and find it very calming and helpful for stress reduction and therefore also pain reduction at some level. I should like to practice some more but have to admit that I sometimes lack that motivtion:-). I use the Jon Kabat Zin mindfulness cd - it is very good and there are 4 different types of meditation on there lasting approx 40 minutes.

I found your blog really interesting. I really hope that people try mindfulness and let their thoughts go - it is such a release!

Yes it is good, and my husband trains people in this and also runs courses in east anglia. I use it for meditation also for pain relief, sleep the whole lot. Mary F
