I was wondering how often people have their urine tested and what they've been advised about doing dip tests either at the GP's or at home?

I have never had my urine tested except at clinic visits. i know you are supposed to be tested for sugar if you are on steroids. However, i work in a clinic so do my own dipsticks

I do my own every couple of weeks; I always show up a little bit of blood (from bladder inflammation) so helps to keep an eye on that (getting less at the moment!). Also, if you have dsDNA antibodies, there is a risk of renal problems so it's reassuring to monitor protein levels, particularly as renal problems don't have that many symptoms. I'm on 6 monthly rheumy and renal check ups, which didn't feel like enough.

I just got some off Amazon (other on-line suppliers who might pay more tax are available!).

I have been diagnosed almost 2 years and no-one has tested my urine ever.

I suggested to the rheumy that maybe I should and he said as my bloods were ok there was no need, but reluctantly gave me a pot to being a sample to the next clinic. :/

It sounds as if you need to see a rheumy who is lupus trained.

Not what you're looking for?
