Hiya, does anyone suffer from really bad heartburn and acid reflux? I have had it for a few months now every morning on waking and I also get a sore throat too. I have been to gps last year with it and been given peptic liquid for it. I also take lanzaprazol which I have taken since I was diagnosed with lupus in 2013. Going for a blood test on Wednesday but not sure why as I haven’t been to gps. Could this be the hospital that’s asked the gps to re test my blood. Was awake at 4pm this morning with acid and burning

Hi Elizabeth,

There are 2 issues. First, you must go to your doctor to get the reflux under control. It’s a serious issue since the acid is irritating your throat etc and you want to prevent any bleeding.

Second, speak to your doctor about the blood test, rather than worry about something you don’t know!

I agree with lupus-support 1 about seeing your doctor to get your heartburn controlled.

I’ve had GERD for over 40 years.

There are 2 things you can do now:

Elevate the head of your bed 6 inches ( takes adjusting time ) it keeps the acid from spilling into your throat.

Sleeping on your left side also aids in keeping the acid in the stomach.

I used foaming chewable tablets called Gaviscon which help create a barrier at the base of your esophagus. Not sure if the UK has a similar product or not...I hope so.

You certainly have your hands full and there’s no doubt that you are stressed out with all you are doing for everyone.

I just said a special prayer for you and everyone.

You have my empathy as I have been through the same situation except only 1 child and 8 adults.

I too have SLE and I get prescribed Omeprazol for acid reflux, which I have had since having my gall bladder removed and on the whole it works great x
