my dad has asbestos related lung cancer, and on his lymph nodes,is having chemo,is still smoking and has emphsyema, whats his life expectancy
Hi Liam
Impossible for anyone to say, other than the experts. Obviously, carrying on smoking doesn't help your dad's case but again, STOPPING smoking under these circumstances can add more stress. See his CNS for advice on where to go from here.
I had NSCL in 2000 - had stopped smoking two years earlier.
Best wishes, Bill
thanks for the reply. angela
Hi Angela,
no one say tell how long we have got. Even the experts to some extent a they are looking at 'historical' data. Treatments have come along way in the last couple of years. Like Bill say's still smoking won't help, does he want to stop or the fact that it is asbestos related he doesn't feel he needs to?
The fact that he has no mets at the mo is encouraging but I feel in order to give yourself more time you need to help yourself too by putting yourself in the best place to fight this. That's physically and emotionally. You have got to want to fight it. I would speak to the Lung Cancer nurse on advice about still smoking.
I was diagnosed at 49 with NSCLC stage 4 (T4 N1 Mxa) that was 22 months ago, I've never smoked but had a gene mutation.
Hope all go's well

thank you.x
Hi Angela, as the others have said no one can really say how long any of us have. But it sounds encouraging for your dad. You all have to stay strong and have faith! And as Lyn, says speak to your Cancer nurse re your dad still smoking.
Hope all will go well for your dad.
