Operation over.

Hi everyone , Just to let you know I had my operation on 10th. last week had my whole lung removed. I am now home and amazed at the progress I have made. I feel with this site it has made me stay positive the whole way through.

Thanks for all your positive thoughts and wishes. As far as I know it all went well and will know more in 3 to 4 weeks time.

Well Jilly what a remarkable lady, I have had small cell 1993 and non small cell in 2007. My after ops regime was to build up my strength soon as possible through exercise with resistance and a little aerobics. By slowly increasing the reps I make the most of what little lung power I have left. Don’t do marathons anymore but I know my limitations and enjoy a contented self sufficient life. I endured many up and down days after each treatment, but time and a slightly slower less anxious life style has over time, made it all worthwhile. Like myself you will likely have the odd tough day, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Go for it! And I wish you all the best in your future.

Hi Robert thanks for the encouragement. Just got a slight set back as I have an infection where my chest drain went. Not nice, anyway on antibiotics now and see the nurse regular to dress the wound. I go next week tomorrow to see the oncologist see if I need any type of follow up treatment. in fact I see my consultant and surgeon next week too. busy week. Never needed a diary before but I do now.

Jilly is remarkable & I totally agree with her you sound amazing. I'm still trying to recover from the shock tumour diagnosis 6 weeks ago & all that has happened (tests,etc) since.

I am very interested in your post-operations' exercise regime.

On a routine yearly oncology plus x-ray checkup (9 years ago I had lymphatic cancer) I was diagnosed with Adenol non-small cell cancer with a 3 centimeter tumour in my right lung. A PET-CT scan revealed a second very small tumour in my left lung - that was the bad news! However, no cancer was found in the lymph-nodes or anywhere else as far as they could tell, (an MRI ascertained that I did have a brain which has settled a few family arguments :-)! anyway, that was in the not-so-bad news category!

The removal of the small tumour was a week ago & I am still recovering in hospital. It was not the simple key-hole op. the thoracic surgeon hoped for as there was too much scar tissue from the cancerous lymph-node removed 9 years ago. This time I'm not as brave, or perhaps as naive, as I was last time on this darned cancer journey! I hope me & my battered old body & mind can stay positive.

Unlike you & Jilly, only a lobe will be removed from the right lung. I need to get fit ASAP so I can have this second operation as quickly as possible. Did you have professional advice, specifically lung cancer related, as to your exercises & how often, etc.? I would welcome any & all advice.

Hi Godfrey, Not doing too bad thank you. Like I just told robert I have an infection , but I am sure its only a minor set back.

Still get a bit of pain , but its early days yet.

just wondering how you are doing now?I am having two lobes of my right lung removed next tuesday and there is a possibility of the whole lung being removed.You sound very encouraging.I hope all is going well.Julie
