Has anyone any experience of 'pericardial effusion'? Does anyone know of any effective treatments for symptoms?

Hi Katw

Sorry, I've no knowledge of this, but I'm sure someone on this site will be able to help

Hi,

I have no personal knowledge but I do know that the treatment is to relieve symptoms not to cure. This treatment is to remove or drain the fluid. The usual way is by inserting a needle (guided by echocardography) and drain it off that way. if fluid builds up again they can insert a catheter to drain the fluid into a vein, this stays in place.

Hope that helps

Thank you both. We are at the hospital next week so will probably find out more then.

I'm curious to know how everything turned out? I have reoccurring pericardial effusion. I had a window put in on Aug 28th, they drained a half liter of fluid from it. And it reoccured on Sept 7th. They treated it with antibiotics and two different anti inflammatory meds after the second one.
