New Primary cancer

I have stage 4 metastatic breast cancer ER+ and her2 negative and been on Ibrance and letrozole for since December 2023 though I was diagnosed August 2023. Long story that I mentioned in a previous post. I had a recent biopsy of my upper left lung since I have lung mets. The last biopsy I had said it was all breast cancer. This biopsy says it's small cell lung cancer (yes I am a smoker). I have been crying a lot and I know this cancer is aggressive and fast growing. But get this this one tumor I have had since the beginning of being diagnosed with breast cancer. It's been on all the scans, hasn't grown but didn't shrink so it's not acting like small cell lung cancer nor do I have any symptoms and I have had it for a year. I feel devastated and depressed. I see my oncologist today and my adult kids are going with me. Anyone else have any other cancer along with SCLC?

Hello Monkeygirl62

I am very sorry to hear the results of this biopsy, understandably you will be shocked especially when previous biopsy showed it as a breast met. As you have said it has not been responding or behaving like a small cell lung cancer, the best people to discuss this with is your own oncology team who are aware of your current treatment.

We are a small charity based in the UK, below I have added a link to the American Lung Association which is based in the USA.

I saw my oncologist yesterday and she said she can cure it with chemo and radiation at the same time then immunotherapy. It's stage 1b. Has anyone had these treatments and lived past 5 years?

Hi Mondkeygirl62

This is understandably a distressing time for you especially given the journey that you have been on.

Everyone responds and reacts differently and hope you hear from others in the forum that may encourage you.

Stage 1b is very early staging and is not the typical presentation of small cell lung cancer as you have said. We would advise to go with what your oncologist says and am sure they will monitor you closely during and after your treatment.

You are welcome to download our free information booklets, however they are UK based to follow within our guidelines here. We have booklets for each treatment:
