HiI have recently got a stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis. We are desperate to book a cruise. Has anyone managed to find insurance at a reasonable cost? My wife is so in need if a break, having looked after me through the treatment!

Thanks

Many thanks for this, it is really helpful. Such a great community!

I’ve never managed to get insurance to cover my cancer, I’ve taken normal holiday insurance and had money available to quickly get me back to the UK should I need it. Book the cruise xx

Hi There agree with the others, we have just returned from a Med cruise with Celebrity, insured with Insurancewith, the form is very comprehensive, and it is better to requested a call with them, to go through everything, reasonable quote and would use them again. Also explain to your waiter if on a dinner slot, any issues you might have with food, I try to remain diary free, to reduce side effects, and they always checked the menu with me. Lol 😂 I got told off for requesting cremebrele no less. The cruise 🚢 was well worth it, even through back to not very good news, but we will go again

Take Care

Jx

Cruise cover can be more expensive than a 'static' holiday due to the possibility of medical evacuation for some conditions. However several companies cover this with cancer - premia vary dependent on destination and any other conditions, stage of cancer/treatment etc.... I usually use MedicalTravelCompared.com and Payingtoomuch.com for comparisons since I restarted travelling internationally in 2016. I've travelled extensively for work and leisure and found different companies were better for some countries than other. Insurancewith and insurecancer.com both use telephone questions and proper risk assessment than algorithms in online quotes so can be much more personalised.

Failure to declare a medical condition can nullify insurance for any cover such as cancellation, lost luggage etc so not only the medical cover aspect. Some people used to exclude medical conditions but since the pandemic that's much less likely to achieve as respiratory conditions (covid 19, pneumonia) have proven to need assistance often hospitalisation so lung cancer fell into that category. Remember also to take your EHIC card (if still valid and travelling to Europe) or GHIC.

Good luck and hope you enjoy your travels wherever you get to....

I'd bring with me Noni juice. It boosts your immunity regarding tumours and cancer. ;-)

Hi All. Has anyone used “Insurewith” for countries outside Europe, eg Africa or Caribbean?

Yes, we have a family policy with InsureWith - its an annual policy and covers us worldwide, including skiing. We excluded the US as we had no plans for travelling there.

My husband is 2 and a half years out from his stage 4 diagnosis and I think the policy and price is excellent.
