Hi Seagulls123

This link is to our travel booklet and pages 24-35 details travel insurance with some travel insurance providers: roycastle.org/app/uploads/2...

If you would like a paper copy of this we can post this out and you can order the booklet by emailing info@roycastle.org

Some airlines require a 'Fit to fly' letter from the GP/Oncologist. Hope you hear from others in the forum who have had recent travel insurance, and you have a great holiday.

Your dad can apply for our one off grant of up to £150 for anyone with lung cancer and you can apply for this through this link: roycastle.org/patient-grant... or you can apply on his behalf.

Hi seagulls123 Yes, you certainly can. My husband has stage 4 NSCLC, diagnosed last March, so he's over a year into treatment now (chemo initially and now regular immunotherapy). Insurance was really difficult to get when it was within the 1st year - almost everyone said no and the one or two that offered a policy were ridiculously expensive. This year has been really different - we've been able to get a very good annual policy for the whole family for worldwide travel (though not the USA) for around £500, or with lower limits of cover for around £300. I wonder if the covid situation has calmed down enough that its made getting insurance much easier.

The company we've gone with is insurancewith.com/

My top tip for the question "have you been given a terminal diagnosis?" - my husband has incurable cancer, but its not considered terminal at the moment, so we are able to answer no to that question. May be worth asking your oncologist so you can answer truthfully.

Also, its sensible to get all of you on the same policy. We have a policy through our bank account which won't cover my husband for anything cancer related, and therefore won't cover me and our girls if we had to cancel because he couldn't travel. The Insure With policy means we're all covered in this scenario.

Hope you're able to get away and have a wonderful holiday xx

There are companies who will cover this scenario and they tend to be 'old fashioned' brokers who ask lots of questions rather than computer algorithms.... but premiums also vary dependent on the country of destination. Spain often tends to be more expensive as they tend to take tourists off to private hospitals. some countries may also have less extensive specialist centres - and humidity, extreme temperatures (such as just experienced in Spain/Portugal and Italy) may trigger airways/breathing difficulties. I didn't travel internationally for 6 years after my treatment due to high premiums but decided I was missing out - and have made up for it since - apart from the pandemic. I've travelled far and wide for leisure and work but despite having it removed surgically and no chemo, I've still had to take up individual policies each trip (i.e. no annual cover). I met a man who'd set up an insurance company after his daughter had cancer and wanted to go to Disneyland and they couldn't get cover - that company is insure cancer.com Others that cover advanced disease are insurance with as already suggested. I use comparison websites like payingtoomuch.com and medical travel compared then sift through what the cover involves. good luck.
