Steps to become a carer for my sister

My sister is having chemotherapy for lung cancer and is self-isolated in her flat in London. I want to be able to go there to be her carer. What steps do I need to take to make myself 'clean' enough to be able to do that under the current coronavirus lockdown restrictions - like how long would I need to self-isolate in advance? I have some PPE already and am looking to get approval from the cancer medical team in her hospital.

Dear MBin

Welcome to the forum where am sure you will find support and encouragement.

Its not an easy time for those undergoing treatment for cancer. You are asking the right questions in order to keep your sister safe. I am sure your sister wil be very appreciative of the help.

If you live alone you should self isolate for 7 days. If you live with others you should still self isolate for 7 days. If during this time you show any symptoms of infection then you will need to start the 7 days of isolation again. If anyone in the household develops any symptoms you would then need to self isolate for 14 days. I hope this helps, advice is changing on a regular basis at the moment, so please do contact us again if you need to.

There is additional information for those with cancer, provided by a group of charities that have come together called 'One Cancer Voice' during this pandemic:
