Graham I got hiccups while chemo (Cisplatin/Gem) recently (carboplatin/Gem) apart from holding breath also I was recommended 12hr antacid tablet. Fizzy water oddly enough helped me. Check with your chemo nurses or lung nurse.

Dear Grahsking

Sorry to hear of your hiccups, there is some good information and advice on cancer research UK on this:

cancerresearchuk.org/about-...

The Mesothelioma website is mesothelioma.uk.com/

Their Helpline number is 0800 169 2409

Hope you find some relief for this, if not do discuss with your Specialist of GP

Kind regards

I have a ridiculously silly cure for chemo related hiccups (all hiccups actually) that works for me 100% of the time. My husband had to go to the ER because he had hiccups for hours. I’m talking 12 plus hours. It became painful and intolerable for him. They tried 5 different medications and nothing was working. Phenobarbital was the last one they tried. No response. Finally, a young Swedish doctor came in and said he knew exactly what to do. It’s called the “seven sips”. Take a glass of room temp water and take seven little sips one right after the next. Swallow the water after each sip. You’re basically holding your breathe because you can’t breath and drink water at the same time. After the seventh sip, keep holding your breath till the count of 5. If it doesn’t work the first time, repeat right away with the seven sips. It’s a miracle cure and so simple. Try it and let us know if it works.

Be well!
