Hi. Mum has just been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Just waiting to see if it’s treatable (only possible option is to try and shrink it but not looking good). She started having a cough in August and after still having it at the end of September went and got it checked out. Can’t believe how quickly it’s all happened

Stage 4 lung cancer
Dear Coshmeister1970
Welcome to the forum and so sorry to hear about your Mum. This must be such a shock for your Mum and everyone being diagnosed so quickly, and am sure you have lots of questions.
If your Mum does not have a lung cancer specialist nurse, you can ask for one either through your Mums GP or Oncologist. They are a great source of information and advice.
I have placed a link below on treatments for lung cancer from our web site roycastle.org/how-we-help/l....
Lung cancer treatments are improving and some with stage 4 are sometimes on new medications called targeted therapies (which only work on certain cell mutations) you can find some information on this from cancer research UK - cancerresearchuk.org/about-...
We have a range of informative booklets which you can order online or can view on our website roycastle.org
The Macmillan nurse helpline is 08080 808 0000
Maggies Centres are a great place to find practical, emotional and social support, they are usually attached to Hospitals - their number is 0300 123 1801 and their website is maggiescentres.org/
If you wish to discuss anything you can call us on our free nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200
All the best
