Could anybody advise me on taking blood thinning injections on a plane, do I need a doctors letter or is taking a prescription enough?

Thanks

Sorry hero I am not sure on the answer. Perhaps if you call the airline they should be able to help. :)

Dear hero99

Depending on what country you are going to and the airline you are travelling with, it is best to call the airline to check as jillygirl has rightly advised.

A Doctors letter is recommended (on GP or Specialist letterhead) the letter should include the use of a gel pack if you medicine needs to be stored/travel in a cool bag) and a repeat prescription.

Most airlines are familiar with those requiring to travel with Insulin.

Your local chemist /GP practice may provide you with a small sharps box or you can buy them online through amazon. Most airlines will dispose of your sharps but worth checking again.

For blood thinning injections (this would travel in your cool bag in hand luggage), Keep the original packaging for security checks. I have placed a link below from the UK government guidelines:

There is some useful information on this Thomas Cook website link, but again depends on your airline.
