Hi,

We are looking for questions for Simon, a lung cancer nurse specialist to answer in the Autumn 2017 edition of Inspire for Simon Says.

If there is a question that you would like answered, please share it with us and we will do our very best to include it in the next edition. So if you have a question that you would like answered, please post here or email it to Ollie.scott@roycastle.org.

However, I can't guarantee that we will use every submission, as we have very limited space, although every question will be considered by Inspire's editorial board.

Many thanks,

Ollie

Hi Ollie,

A question for Simon....

How often do you find SCLC in a lymph node but struggle to see the primary in the lung? I believe that SCLC often presents with large lymph nodes but hard to see primary tumour. Does this mean that you would have little chance of finding SCLC before the lymph node enlarges even if the primary was causing some symptoms and you had a CT scan i.e. would the scan probably be clear?

Thanks for this opportunity.

I would like to know more about pleural effusion and how consultants can tell so much from a ct scan.

There seems to be a number of folk where they had symptoms going on for 2 or more years and eventually diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. What is the chances of the symptoms of small cell lung cancer going on for this time without detection? Most information I look at talks about sclc symptoms going on for only a few weeks before diagnosis due to how quickly it grows. Does it start of slow growing and then take of quickly?

Regards

Ed

Hi Simon, Wonder if you could help me please?? I am Stage 4NSCLC with spread to Lymph Nodes etc. Iam fortunate enough to be EGFR positive with Exon 19 deletion. I am now on second line treatment with Tagrisso/Osimertinib - following T790M- and it is holding it well and with very few side effects. The only side-effect I have as such is loss or deforming of my nails - anything I can do about that??

Also since being on the drug (started December2016) I have had 4 admissions to hospital with Sepsis and Pneumonia ?? Is this just because my immune system is shot to pieces or is this a side-effect of Tagrisso?? Very scary times!

Would really appreciate some answers/info on the above 2 questions. Thank you
