Hi, my mum has finished chemo and radio to her chest and brain and for the past 4 weeks has barely had the energy to get up in the morning let alone anything else. Is this normal and how long does it last xx

Hi,

sorry to here this yes it is normal, it can go on for upto 6 weeks, everyone is different.

But do encourage soft Mashable diet...

If not the build up drinks, with plenty of water in between.

So you know it's not tiredness due to poor oral intake.

If she is still tired please ask for blood test, to make sure she is not dehydrated.

Hope this helps.

Hi Reidaj,

Yes, extreme tiredness is a common side effect of chemoradiotheraopy. Unfortunately in some cases the tiredness can last for weeks after the treatment has finished.Although it is important to rest ,a small amount of regular exercise will help reduce tiredness. If you feel that your mums tiredness is excessive ask her lung cancer nurse specialist for advice.

Kind regards,

All the team at the Roy Castle Helpline.
