My husband has lung cancer with metastasis to bones and has just been prescribed fentanyl patch. I am so worried about all the possible side effects. Are there any effective alternatives?

Dear Alicantina,

Why don't you give the patch a try.Not all patients have troublesome side effects. One of the benefits is that is doesn't have be taken by mouth(applied to the skin) and only needs to be changed after a couple of days.It sometimes takes a day or so to get maximum effect. If you are concerned of side effects or if the patch is not relieving the pain, speak to your GP or district nurse.

Kind regards,

I used them with no problem, as the helpline says they are not taken by mouth so do not upset your stomach. At least they did not for me, so much better than taking Skenan etc.

Good luck
