Hi debz1,

It's good that your dad has been going well for the past 4 years. You don't say how often your dad was getting treatment or scans etc. has he been for checkups to see why he now has SOB. It could be an infection or some other reason. He should be going for X-rays at least. Do you have a lung cancer nurse that you can call for advice and support.

Good luck.

Hello Deb

Sorry to hear that your dad's health has deteriorated. As Rab says there may be many reason for the change and this will influence what treatment or support is relevant.

It sounds as though it would be worth asking for him to be assessed by his medical team. I am not sure if he is currently attending the hospital specialist or if you would need to go back to his GP to get him an appointment, but this would be worth looking into.

There are many sources of support, from the GP and also the palliative care teams, if your dad's health is declining. Getting support early is a good idea as it can take some pressure off you and ensure your dad has help to manage his breathlessness or any other symptoms. It may be a hard time for you as you have been looking after him, so do make sure you have the support you need.

do give our helpline a call on 0333 323 7200 option 2 if we can be of help.

best wishes

Lorraine
