Hi Kiy

Sorry you haven't mentioned where you are situated, which might help with replies.

My wife is being treated at the Royal Marsden in Sutton Surrey. There is another one in Chelsea. Both are specialists in cancer treatment with research/trial facilities.

If you mention where you live, and maybe whether you are looking for private treatment or not, I'm sure someone can point you in the right direction.

Best Wishes

Paul

Hi Paul,

Many thanks for the reply, we also received recommendations at the Royal Marsden from another member as well.

My mum is based in Wales, however me and my sister are based in London (thus accomodation is not a facotor)

We are looking into both private and non-private second opinions based in around London.

Dear Kiy,

As your Mum is in Wales, if you haven't already chosen your consultant it might be easier for her to go to Velindre Cancer Care Hospital in Cardiff, which is the centre of excellence for cancer treatment in Wales. I'm being treated there for lung cancer (stage 4 adenocarinoma) and am seeing Dr Jason Lester and his team who are the lung cancer specialists. I've been very pleased with both the hospital and the consultants, who are very efficient and good at communicating, but also very caring.

Good luck with choosing a consultant.

Regards,

Sue

Hello Kiy

It sounds like you have had some good advice here. There are a number of lung cancer specialist centres including the Marsden in London. There is also the Velindre Oncology Centre in Cardiff, if that is convenient for your mum. A number of patients in North Wales are also referred to Liverpool Heart & Chest hospital.

I can imagine this is a worrying time for your family and you want the best possible treatment for your mum. I am not sure how much information you have at this stage on her diagnosis. Tissues samples can be difficult to obain, which may explain the undetermined status following her broncoscopy.

We do have an Information pack: Lung Cancer Answering your Questions which explains testing, staging, subtypes of lung cancer and treatment options. If this would be of use to you or your mum, please give our freephone helpline a call on 0333 323 7200 option 2 and we can send you one out and give further advice,

best wishes

Hi my first oncologist was Dr Bodea, at peterborough hospital, but I'm under another now, and Dr Bodea I am lead to believe has moved on to another hospital.

But in my opinion, she was a very good Doctor, and I would recommend her.

Hope this helps
