Has anyone had successful treatment for neuropathy caused by chemotherapy. I am becoming very unsteady on my feet and I can't feel anything with my hands.

Hi PMS-1, I'm sorry I don't know, but I'm hoping someone on here will be able to point you in the right direction. Hope people are nearby to help if you need it. All the best to you. Kx

Thank you

Hi there PMS-1,

Are you currently receiving chemotherapy? You should discuss this with the nurses/ medical staff.

If you have finished your treatment neuropathy should diminish after 4-6 weeks following completion of treatment.

If you wish to speak to someone, please call our helpline on 0333 323 7200 option 2.

Best wishes,

Beth, on behalf of information and support.

Hi Beth, I finished my chemotherapy over 2 years ago. I followed treatment up with Tarceva which I have been on since with positive results. The side effect which affect me are my hair has become brittle and the nerves to the extremities are affected. It does say this can happen. I have tried pregablin and another medication with no affect. I have discussed this with the medical staf who have told me that sometimes the nerves can be damaged permanently. I know it gets worse in the cold weather.

I have neuropathy in my feet which started in November 2014, about 6 weeks after I finished chemotherapy (post surgery - 4 cycles of cisplatin and vinerolbine - I had no effects at all during treatment). It's not painful for most of the time but is very uncomfortable and gets worse later in the day.

I had a month's course of vitamin B12 with no effect. Then blood tests to rule out any other cause (no other cause identified) and am now 2 weeks into gabapentin (300mg x 3 times a day) which seems to be improving things, unless I'm just getting more used to the feeling!

I'm told if this doesn't work there are other medicines that can be tried. My lung specialist nurse, consultant and oncologist (St. James, Leeds) and GP have all been very helpful throughout.

I hope you find a solution soon.
