It's been a long time since I posted and much has happened. A tumor in my lung which my oncologist and I have been following for 3 years has finally reached the point where we are looking into treatment options. The most promising one so far is stereoscopic radiation therapy. An appointment was originally setup in March, but was cancelled because I became ill. By the time I recovered, three weeks, covid19 was sweeping across here and I was under a stay at home order. I finally ventured out earlier this week for a mammogram as follow up for breast cancer. It was clear. So now on the advice of my oncologist, the radiation oncology consult is back on for May 18. This nasty pandemic has played havoc with everyone. I have 2 family members on the front lines and am grateful to all who risk their lives every day to keep the rest of us going.
Everyone take care and stay well. This bug is not to be messed with.

My lung cancer was adenocarcinoma and breast cancer was invasive ductal carcinoma. We decided on the radiation consult first to see if it is feasible considering the location of the tumor right next to the ascending aorta. I have never had radiation therapy before because the lung cancer was discovered as they were preparing me for radiation after the lumpectomy and treatment of the lung cancer took precedence. With the position of this tumor, a biopsy is dangerous, so I chose to wait and see if this treatment is an option first. I don't want any treatment that is worse than the disease. I have had five good years, more than was expected, so I'm happy. My oncologist has been great.
