pet scans accurate?

hello everyone

this weekend has been very hard for me with my

moms breast cancer diagnosis.

However, she did have a pet scan (full body) on novemeber after he lung canceroid was removed along blood tests and the oncologist called her and said everything seemed good and to come back on february for another check up. She said nothing had returned (which she was not expecting because the oncologist said canceroids are very rare to come back and if they do they are operable) Anyways, with this new breast cancer diagnosis is it possible that it has not mestasized since we just saw a recent scan?

I told the doctor that my mom had a pet scan that was clear a bit ago and she was a bit surprised as to why and how it was a good sign that nothing else was seen. I know this can be good, but I just wonder of the pet scan could miss any type of mestasis on her body. Like I know breast cancer is only seen via mammogram (which now confirmed), but I am really hoping her breast cancer is not advanced. In fact, she was in ICU for so long getting scans I would be shocked they missed anything.

Sincerely, I doubt that your mom has metastatic breast cancer. How large was the lesion they found by mammogram? It’s likely that it was not large enough to cause it to light up on the PET scan but there are no guarantees. Without more information I cannot give a more accurate answer.
