Latest diagnosis for my Dad

Hi everyone. I am very happy since my dad third time in a raw was told after MRI and CT scan that no more metastasis in his head and regression in his lungs. The doctor suggested to do the next MRI and PET in 6 months for now instead of 3 months.

Reading his discharge summary, i see it says C34- malignant neoplasm of bronchus and lung. Is this the same as NSCLC? It was was the initial diagnosis for my dad.

I am trying to read the reports from PET and MRI to find out the details since the iy thing doctor said “Its clean” , which is very good news but trying to see what does “clean” mean. Can anyone help me to read the PET results and give me more info since my dad is in country Georgia and was not there with him to ask more questions to his doctor.

Thanks

Ina

I’m just a patient, but my doctor usually uses the word “good.” “Scans look good.” I would take the word “clean” and assume it means no metabolic activity/no active or growing cancer. Scans will often show the scar tissue area anyway, and those aren’t cause for alarm until the size increases. There is a phrase in my CT results that says something like “consistent with lung neoplasm,” referring to a stable area in my left lobe. I think the word is just a radiology term for a lesion/tumor/mass and doesn’t necessarily mean ACTIVE cancer. Again, I’m no doctor ,but the term neoplasm showed up consistently on my own reports for approximately four years while my cancer was stable.

Hopefully, he has a great nurse that you could call and simply ask for clarification.

That C34- malignant neoplasm is indeed the nsclc. It’s the ICD10 code that medical facilities must use to bill insurance companies.

Jennifer’s advice is spot on. My doctor uses the same medical ear her dr uses. You can relax and dad gets a 6 month break from tests. If he start to show symptoms then they can bring him in earlier.
