Had CT scan due to shortness of breath and chest/back pain. And both parents had lung cancer. GP said showed multiple ground glass nodules! Told I would be referred that's all.
My question is What are Multiple ground glass nodules and should investigations be referred under the urgent 2 week pathway.
My E-referral appointment is 19 weeks away.
Advice would be grateful thanks

Not all ground glass opacities (GGO) are cancerous. Some are related to recent illnesses that involved he lungs. GGOs are not solid enough to biopsy. They should follow up with a new CT at 3 or 4 months to see if they develop into something a bit more solid. In some cases I’ve read where people are followed at 6 or 12 months but with your family history I would not want to wait that long.
The Go2 Foundation who sponsors this has some very well educated people on staff who can give you better info while your waiting to hear other people’s experiences. There is never a charge to the patient so I would recommend talking to them. I’ll look their number up and update in a couple minutes.
I didn't ask any questions to my GP, I just heard "something on the scan"... Is there any thing I should be asking or push for a sooner referral date than 19 weeks,
We’re usually gobsmacked when we’re told these things. Do ask for a referral to a pulmonologist. The Go2 Foundation phone number is 1-800-298-2436. They have doctors on staff who can answer you questions better.
I have GGOs that haven’t changed size or appearance in years. But I also have stage 4 lung cancer so they have been monitoring them for 9 years.
That is correct. They can be caused by another disease or illness. But they can, on occasion, develop into cancer so they need to keep an eye on them. I’ve had them for 9 years that I know of and they’ve not caused me any trouble yet. But due to my history they keep an eye on them.
