Once you’ve had a cancer diagnosis it’s normal to wonder if each little pain, twinge or headache means the cancer is back and it’s moved. When you last wrote someone from the Addario Foundation suggested you contact your doctor for a survivorship summary and recovery plan. We’re you able to do that? Please contact your doctor and inquire about your follow up CT. You should be due for one at 6 months.

There are about 100,000 cells in a 1 mm mass. It only takes 1 cell to shed and travel through the lymph system or the circulatory or attach to an adjacent organ and a new cancer can begin to grow.

It’s even possible that that cancer was there to begin with but too small to show up on a PET or CT scan. For that reason they do regular follow ups.

I’m sure you could live without that information but I hope it motivates you to contact your oncologist or pulmonologist.

Sadly, cancer can develop in each of us at any time, much like any illness.

Please consult with your medical team to have further testing. The only way to know for certain is time have scans and a biopsy.

I hope very much it's not cancer. Best wishes. Think positive!

Hi Yes, it is possible for cancer to grow in just a few months. My liver oncologist explained it like a key going through our bodies looking for a lock to open. Since 2002 I have had 5 primary cancers. That said, it is also normal for us to be scared of each new feeling. The best way to handle all of this is to talk to your oncologist and work from there. DO NOT be afraid to bring up any concerns, no matter how small - you are better off finding out that it is just a twinge than to find out it is ca and you waited too long. Any oncologist worth his/her salt will listen to you carefully and take your concerns seriously - you are not the first and certainly won't be the last to be afraid! You deserve to be treated with the utmost respect, even if it turns out to be nothing! We know our bodies better than anyone else!!
