Hey there Health Unlocked. I joined on behalf of my Mom, who was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. My fiance and I researched until we were blue in the face and have decided to move forward with treatment with CBD and THC. I really hope this stuff lives up to the hype. There seems to be so much positivity with this and moms spirits seemed a little lifted after all the long hours of research I've spent and reporting back and sharing. I think we did the right thing. We got her started on a 1/3 order of the induction for the 60-90gram treatment for her to try it out and see how she feels about it. She does not want to feel the high so she will be doing this in suppository form. I was hoping the community could chime in and tell me something about your experience with this if tried? Thank you
New here with a big hello! : Hey there... - Lung Cancer Support
New here with a big hello!
Couchfly, while I naturally wish you and your mother success with her treatment, I am very curious why you are not doing conventional treatment that has a proven track record. Surely you have already worked with an oncologist to determine whether there are any actionable genetic markers and to determine the proper stage of the cancer. What does your oncologist think about using cannabis oil?
I have researched medical cannabis for years and have yet to see a verifiable success case that did not also do conventional treatment, and I have not seen any long-term follow ups of any such case. What I have seen is a ton of evidence that cannabis is useful for managing side-effects and that it makes conventional treatment much easier. If you have information about cannabis being curative that holds up to scrutiny, I know there are many of us who would love to see it. Otherwise, I hope you are continuing to work with a board certified oncologist to ensure the health and wellbeing of your mother.
Know that we are all here for you and for her if you want to voice worries or fears, or if you want to compare treatment stories.
All the best,
Jeffrey
Hey Jeffery, thanks so much for the reply. I should have been more clear. she is doing the standard treatments in combination with the THC/CBD. She has small cell non-extensive and has not spread as of now. The Dr. seems positive about this, her treatments , and overall how she is doing. I do believe there is something to this and something that the pharmaceutical industry does not know how to market and put a price on yet. I'm sure we have crossed over the same research and the reason being we are all left without concrete evidence on success is because we are in uncharted waters. There does seem to be an overwhelming amount of positivity and "success" surrounding this but at the end of the day it is just hope. I am not a scientist or a doctor. I have often thought, that if this "is" the "magic" cure then why are people not screaming it from mountain tops instead of 3-4 major articles found online. However, I do figure it's worth a try. Thank you for the support.
First, I am glad to hear that her cancer has not spread as of this time. That is a good place to be starting from. You should know that the pharmaceutical industry would have no difficulty putting a price tag on cannabis derivatives if they could make something that would hold up to scrutiny out of it. There are already a couple of THC-based drugs on the market for dealing with side-effects (I have a jar of those pills, covered by insurance) and they have been around for years. If watermelon could cure cancer, pharmaceutical companies would find a way to make it more effective and sell it at a nice profit. That day may still come for cannabis.
In the meantime, I have a friend with small cell lung cancer (hers was extensive) and she responded quite well to chemo, as many small cell patients do. No evidence of disease after just a few months of treatment. Some small cell patients have no recurrence, but most will have the cancer come back. Traditionally, the second line of treatment for small cell is not as successful as the first, but there is still hope. You should know that it may be years before the cancer returns, but it is something that will need to be watched for. However, treatments for small cell are improving. And there are small cell clinical trials that are ongoing -- if your mother goes into remission after her first rounds of chemo, which she has a very good chance of doing, and then if her cancer returns, she should definitely look into participating in one of these clinical trials. A small cell patient in my support group has been on immunotherapy for some time now and appears to be enjoying decent results from that as well. I am not as familiar with her condition, but she did seem quite happy when I saw her last.
Just know that the science is progressing quickly and new treatment options may pop up in just a matter of months, so keep your ears open. If you have a research hospital near you, it might be worth checking it out to see if they have anything new going on.
Keep us posted.
All the best,
Jeffrey
Hello couchfly, and welcome. I've joined on behalf of my wife, (adenocarcinoma stage 4). Good luck with your choice of treatment. I would very much like to hear how it works for your mom.
I knew someone who used the CBD oil to help manage side effects of chemo, which it did very well. I wish your Mom a long and happy life.
