Has anyone had an colonoscopy I go the second of Jan. I hate it they came out with something different but insurance wouldn't,t pay for it so I had to get that gallon jug of stuff which is disgusting..The last time I couldn't,t get a half jug down. I vomited I didn't,during all of I vomited the last glass up apparently I was clean nothing was said . I hate getting that done the laxatives are the hardest part the worst part. When you go in they knock you out thank goodness. Love susie

I just had a colonoscopy last month. I had to drink 16oz of water mixed with 16oz of the cleaning fluid, twice followed by 16 oz of straight water. The stuff had a little bit of a medicine taste but really wasn’t too bad. That is until about an hour after I finished. This stuff was suppose to clean out the bowels and boy did it ever. By the time it was done I had nothing but water. No nausea at all. And of course I was sleeping during the procedure. Hope it goes better for you next time.

Hi SusieJo, I have them every 5 years because of family medical history. The prep is truly yucky, but all in all, an easy procedure: drink, clean out, get looked at, go home:} I am always happy to have them - they'll catch something early...a good thing, right? Don't worry, honestly, it is a very common procedure and as safe as that kind of thing gets.

I’ve had one also. Absolutely hate the prep. Because of the pain meds I’m on I need a 2 day prep with 2 tubs of Go-Lyghtly. Ugh. But I’ve had pre cancerous polyps so I’ll do the prep and live in denial.

Google the Gatorade and Miralax cleanse. It’s palatable and “works” just as well.

That jug of crap they make you drink is bad, tastes a little better if its cold. I have never been able to get the entire thing down either. Doctors office told me that as long as there was nothing solid coming out, I was clean, no need to finish the jug.

There is a way you can actually do colonoscopy testing via the mail. Ask your physician if that might work for you.....much simpler process.

@Scottig never heard of that how do they remove polyps over phone. I,'ll ask they knock you out so you Don,t feel anything.

Susiejo, I have never had the gallon of yuck, but do have a trick in drinking things I do not like. I get a large straw and put it as far in the back of my mouth as possible and drink it that way. It makes yucky things not rest on the tongue so much!

Because I am at high risk and they have taken pre-cancerous polyps out at every colonoscopy, I have to have one done each year. My doc uses Miralax and Gatorade (no red or purple!) and it isn't that bad.

Laurie thanks I,m on oxygen the rest of my life I have emphysema plus they took the upper lobe out on left side. Have a merry Christmas love Susie jo

SusieJo, I just had my fourth dual endoscopy / colonoscopy. Although I have had a lobectomy and am on 24/7 oxygen, it went very smooth . I also had the Gatorade/ Miralax cleanse this time and thus the prep was the east yet. Kind Wishes, judg69

Yes, Susie, I had one that showed my blockage in my colon, which is why the surgery . Are you in pain? I had severe pain and couldn't do a bowel movement. I am having a cat scan on the 3rd but without the drink, he knows it would go right through me with such a small colon left. Does the doc think maybe you could do it without the contrast? I would ask.

Donna I can,t. do the contrast I,m having trouble with my kidneys,I see a kidney Dr he says it's because of my age they slow down. My potassium is low I have to take pills for it. They call this the golden age ha! Ha! Ha! Love susiejo1948

I vomit too. I get the pills. Tell Doc you can't keep it down. Im sure your pharmacist can tell you what it's called, then ask your doc for it.
