Old stockings

Morning everyone. I’m just wondering what everyone does with their old stockings? Is there a charity out there that collects them for use in other countries? I understand that they are bespoke items but it feels such a waste to just bin them when surely some people could benefit from them.

It’s very sad, but they cannot be reused. Attempts have been made to ship them to third world countries, but they were rejected at customs.

I use mine as plant ties in the garden! Cut into 1cm strips they are great for tying in climbers, roses & shrubs without damaging the stems 😊

Fill them with potting compost, suspend them from a hook in a greenhouse or sheltered wall, and put 2 or 3 strawberry plants into holes cut with a sharp knife

Fun creative gardening ideas! I don’t have any old ones yet, other than over the counter stockings I bought before being properly measured, but I plan to keep at least some of them - depending on their condition. Might be able to use them for messier, short term activities like painting and spray painting In hot weather (with shorts over stockings), kayaking and other unpredictable water related events, etc.

My legs have got smaller since i first got the stockings so I'm keeping the old ones in case they swell too much to get the new ones on in the summer.

I keep one set for when I go swimming or kayaking. One set in our caravan for emergency. Mine are made of neoprene and I have made built up instep. Other than that I use it to pad out my kayak instead of paying a fortune from kayaking shops
