Security check at French airport

I would like to alert all armsleeve/glove/gauntlet and possibly lower limb compression garment wearers to something that happenened to me last night in Chambery airport in France. I stepped though the body scan machine only to be asked to remove my armsleeve, which was only visible from wrist to fingers as I had a fleece on. I explained that I have 'lymphodeme' and removed the fleece. I don't think that the security guard understood as they proceeded to scan my arm and armsleeve using what I think was a metal detector. I thought at first it had burned me as the two areas they scanned felt hot, but there were no visible marks. My arm felt tingly for some time afterwards. I am going to make a complaint to the French Airports Authority about it. Unfortunately I was not carrying my Lymphalert card, but I am not sure that it would have made any difference. I appreciate the need for security but this treatment seemed over the top.

I'm sure you found this experience very unpleasant I have also had this quite a few times especially when I flying to London they practically strip me 😳. But I'm sorry to say these days it has to be done and unpleasant as it is.

It is happening a lot. One of my clients who wears compression stockings and compression capris over the top, now alerts the staff at check in and then again at security - invariably he is fine simply going through the metal detector with everyone else, but in Germany, New York and Vancouver he was taken to a private room and asked to remove them all. He just gets in with it. The security staff have a job to do.

Sorry to read this 😟

It does seem indeed very over the top.

If it was someone in bandaging or a sling, plaster of Paris would they do the same?..

Even if I don’t wear garments travelling (which I tend not too as I can’t cope with the falling down and readjusting or the wrinkling cutting off circulation ) the huge areas of irregularity in my legs picked up on the scanner causes a body search!

I agree over the top... yet people try to scam them so can't blame them...I have a lymphedema necklace and I get on air flights pre- boarding ... I put my leg wrap on after I get through security and before I board. so that they don't strip search me !!!

Ah, that's a good idea, wish I had done that!

Get stopped every single time I fly! I know they have a job to do but I object to showing my awful legs to everyone else too! I am happy to be checked, although it would be nice to just walk through like the rest of my family, but I ask for it to be done in private. Have to say doesn't always go down well with the security officers and some make a right fuss!
