Hello, I'm new here and this is my first post. I'm glad to know there is such a group and I should have looked sooner. I was ready to buy some compression stockings (I have lymphedema of my lower left leg) and need some good ones now. Then I realized I don't know the amount of pressure I need and I wasn't sure about the "grip" and whether it cut off my circulation. I would like a consensus (if there is one) about the type of stockings to purchase and should I keep open toes, etc. Any help would be appreciated because I simply don't know??? Thanks in advance.
Here comes another one!: Hello, I'm new here and this is... - LSN

If you haven't already been to a lymphodema clinic ask your doctor to refer you to one. You need to be properly measured and assessed before you think of buying anything. Once that's done you'll have an NHS prescription. Wearing the the wrong sort or size, of compression garments can do more harm than good. I have an ingrowing toenail so I wear those with open toes and as its only my lower legs that are affected I have the below the knee type.
Hi Rosyjosy ( fun name!), Welcome to the site! I agree with Magpuss - you definitely need to get measured so you will get the right kind of compression stockings. I’m surprised whoever diagnosed you didn’t tell you? I wear open toe stockings too because the others squished my toes together too much and made my foot feel restless and hot; plus I have all kinds of constantly changing foot issues ( sprained it three years ago). If you have top of foot swelling, the recommendation might be closed toe.
But I have some such swelling too and the open toed stockings can be pulled forward until the swollen area, so it’s ok. Good luck to you!!
Yes I think you need a lymphoedema clinic or you may cause more harm than good. I have right arm lymphoedema and I get measured every six months and sometimes they still not accurate as swelling changes. I started of with separate sleeve and glove but now have all in one. Good luck
RosyJosy - are you in the USA?
