From what I read, it seems that having this type of intervention can create problems at the healthy area. There are cases where women develop lymphoedema in an arm after just one node has been removed. Find out how many people have had good results with the type of operation you're looking into. The surgeon herself, I guess, should be able to put you in touch with other patients of hers.
I had the transfer from my neck to my groin, and although it sounds drastic, it is apparently a much better donor site than the armpit. The only side effect I had was a slight loss of feeling in the shoulder. If you are worried about the lack of UK based clinical evidence of this procedure, it is a very common procedure in many other countries. My recovery was surprisingly quick and pain free, but there is always risk with all surgery.
If you go ahead with the surgery, it would be great to hear about your experience.
Good luck
Hi Syrup, was your surgery a success? What kind of improvement have you experienced?
I'm not entirely sure if the transfer was a success. My leg responds better to compression but I have subsequently had 3.5 litres of fat taken from my leg via liposuction from the combination of ops seems to be getting results. My leg is a better shape and feels more comfortable, but now have to let the post op swelling go down which can take upto 6 months.
The lipo leaves you very sore an very swollen
I wish you a speedy recovery. I had the LVA surgery recently but considering the lymph node transfer if I dont get results
Hi syrup, hope your operation has been a success, my partner suffers from left arm lymphadema from birth he is now 25 and has already tried liposuction with Mr MUnnoch in ninewells hospital which wasn't successful. Please could you give me some details of the transfer you had with Anne Dancy? & was this private or funded by NHS. Many Thanks
Maybe ask if it is best to use right hand side to harvest as the left side "services" 2/3 of your body!
If you are having problems with lymphedema do try and find a Hivamat massage therapist in your area,
it softens even older hardened tissue most of the time, very good with decongestion.
Best of luck!
We r gonna see about goin next yr. Only thing is its private not nhs so i think i gotta try for funding as im in abdn and she in england. My legs swell up every day so im not sure its bad enough for a massage therapist. This is so i can hopefully get back to work. If i do go for it i will defo let u know syrup01.
Thanx to all advice x
From another Fiona wishing you good luck in accessing good treatment and possibility of lymph node transfer.
