Ummm. I am a lover of surgical spirit and always have it in my overnight bag. I apply it with cotton wool several times a day (minimum night and morning) whenever anything happens to my affected limbs (legs/feet) that makes me think I could be vulnerable to cellulitis. However this is not medical advice just something that seems to work for me. It has to be said I am a bit like a woman possessed whenever something occurs that makes me think I might get cellulitus - I go straight for the surgical spirit. I am reluctant to say too much in case something goes wrong and I get cellulitis again (last time being about 20 years ago.)
hi antihistamines are also quite good piriton especially calms down itching. You can buy sprays and creams to prevent being bitten again Jungle formula max gives 10 hr protection from mosquitos and biting insects not sure if thats available in greece but there are lots of different ones on the market your find them in most chemists and most shops sell it along side sun cream enjoy your holiday fingers crossed there are no more bites !!!
Hi, I don't think u should be too worried. I went to an exotic country for our honeymoon my husband and I and I got bit once, but nothing happened since and it was 2 years ago. I am congenital left arm and leg affected. Prevention is necessary though. Always try to wear some white pijama , Mosquitos are less attracted to this color!
Thank you
Hi Georgia, my GP recommends that i take antihistamines and antibiotics when i travel to the sun. those pesky mosquitoes love the protein in the lymph fluid. Also i usually find that the local pharmacy have the best topical treatments to stop the itching too. In Spain this year i bought a clear fluid that i painted over the bite that was waterproof - it was fantastic and i have used in since getting home on nasty horse fly bites. They may have something similar. NNE
Thanks Naomi
Hi ......like Naoimi I was recommended to always carry antibiotics, and 2 years ago I forgot to take them with me,and consequently got bitten by dratted mosquito!! It caused my arm and hand to swell dramatically to level I hadn't seen before, which never went back down to pre bite size......luckily I didn't get cellulitis!!.
I now never go anywhere without a course of antibiotics in my medical bag!!
Hope you get on ok and it doesn't get infected and take care.
Don't be afraid to ask at the chemist, the Europeans are far more educated in lymph than they are in the UK if you think you have a problem
It's not the bite that you should worry about per se, but the break in the skin. Keep the bite properly clean with an antiseptic cream like Savalon (which I never leave home without), especially after a swim or spell on the beach. Oh and use insect repellant liberally.
GP always gives me a supply of antibiotics and I take antihistamines that are prescribed as they are stronger than piriton. Just be aware of the redness around the bit, I spend a lot of time in Tenerife and the pharmacia's are brilliant
You can probably buy antibiotics from the pharmacy in Greece. I did in Turkey
