I am on day five on bandaging on my full leg for the first time. What results should I expect? I am 36 and have secondary Lymphoedema.

I had 3 weeks of bandaging 6 weeks ago and had had amazing results, 71/2 litres of both legs! Now wearing compression stockings and for first time in 2 yrs SHOES . Due to Seconday Lymphoedema after 2 TKR 's.

I hope you have amazing results too. I am now walking better and knee is starting to get better degree of bend. Good Luck.

Stockings took few weeks to get used too and getting on. But it gets easier to manage. The clinic I went to was brilliant based in Hazlemere, Buckinghamshire.

Hi there

I have only just seen your reply as I am fairly new to this site.

I am particularly interested in your comment about your knee. Both my legs are affected and I have huge difficulty getting up and down from a chair. It gets really embarassing going out for a meal as when we go to leave, I try not to yelp with pain and struggle to get up. My knees seem to have no 'spring' (for want of a better word), so that I have to push myself up from the chair using my arms. I have not so far had any bandaging done,

kind regards and best wishes for Christmas 2014, if you see this in time

I agree with everything Sue 15-08 has said. The bandaging will bring the swelling down and legs will not feel so heavy. The stockings really help - hot in the summer but now winter is here keeps the legs nice and warm ha ha.

Good luck I'm sure you will feel the full benefit very soon.

Can you even begin to imagine how I envy you and your banaging treatments? It really makes me weep as I write this. I live in Eastern Europe in Ukraine but have no access to such treatment as lymphatice drainage, deep tissue massage aand banaging. I know just how good it would be ffor me as many years ago I had such a course of treament in Australia. I am an ex-pat Kiwi and aBritish citizen, but living here I might as well be on another planet. My right foot is bigger than my left. I am NOT obese, in fact I weigh 54kg and am about 1. 64 m in height. I have always been very active, walking many miles, cycling many miles and plenty of swimming but since moving here a year ago my health has just gone downhill. But my spirit hasn't. Love to you all.

I really hope it works for you. Unfortunately my experience hasn't been positive. I had bandaging over two weeks on my arm in summer, I have secondary lymphoedema following mastectomy. At first I was really pleased as it had gone down considerably, I was given new sleeves by the clinic. Unfortunately when I went for my check up it had all come back. I've no idea whether it was because I haven't taken care of it right, or not. I could have it redone but I am so disappointed on one hand (no pun intended) but on another the only benefit I had was my sleeves of my clothes weren't quite so tight. I would think it would be so much worse to have it in your legs. (I am carer to my elderly mother and I just can't be incapacitated 'voluntarily just now' so I just keep my eye on it to make sure it doesn't get any worse).I'd say listen well to any advice you get from your therapist and if possible have check ups regularly.

Thank you for all your responses. Really feel for you Pushkin. It makes me so angry that there are so many of us suffering and yet so many get little or no help. Big hugs x

Good luck rainbow36 and also pushkin, and hannahk2000.......we have a lot to put up with and I teach so often have to answer why I wear glove/sleeve. Its teenagers so I just say that my arm and hand need support. With adults I fess up and say its lymphoedema and then explain it a wee bit. Where would we be without our specialists, LSN and this site

I found that I was able to wear shoes okay they are wide fitting but they are shoes and when I look back at photos my legs now look like actual legs and I can see my ankle bone. They still swell up if I do too much but the compression tights really help and they are nice and snug in the winter, not so nice in the summer (as Compass said) Puskin I'm so sorry that you can't get the help you need :-(
