Im doing better: Hello everyone how are... - Living with Asthma
Im doing better
Hi, Sharaybia, I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been having more problems. And to have your oxygen level drop that low must have been terrifying! Any idea what triggered this flare? Have you had any relapses since? How are you doing in regaining your strength and stamina since the steroids have ended?
I also had a flare in November — an allergic reaction triggered asthma while I was visiting my mother (for her 90th birthday!), which, if course, required substantial steroids to control and end. But it did so without any relapses, and my eos is still in remission (18 straight months — yay, Fasenra!).
Give your Mom my best, and hugs to you,
Deb
Thank you i appreciate it and great you are doing better. It was scary because i had asthma since i was 5. It got worse in 2009 than in 2012 i been on ventilators.it flares up bad at times hospital visits back back and it just wear you out. But that was 1st time in long time that something like that happen. I dont remember to much during it but that day it was just normal day ate breakfast washed off and i was watching tv and i at that moment i didnt know what happen i jump up and stagger to my mom and said i couldnt breath.thats last of what i remember. Than when i came around she said i was talking out my head she put me in car and she meet ambulance. They treated me and got me to hospital. But they never figured out cause just that it was an attack but haven't had a flare up since than. It happen january 28, 2020 but im doing lot better gain weight but i know its from steriods tired but im pushing through day by day. Im feeling fine. Happy belated birthday to your mom and wish her many more to come and thank you
Nice to see you are back among us.keep going .I am doing great with my mepo injection asthma very good .look after yourself.
Hi there.... Sharaybia. Oh my you have really been struggling! Hang in there. We are all pulling for you. How scary... I am trying intermittent fasting in an effort to try and have better control of my asthma. Studies are showing by restricting calories and allowing the Liver to work without having to process foods, it will try and repair damage to all the organs. I always thought that breakfast is the important meal of the day. As of the past few months, I have been skipping breakfast and only allowing myself to eat from noon to 8 pm. Then I stop eating after 8pm. I am not sure if it is helping, but I was assured by one of the Doctors I work with that it was a good idea & I wasn't hurting myself. He said, by fasting it should reduce inflammation. That the purpose of steroids.... Reduces inflammation, but has nasty side effects. I watched an interesting documentary called, The Science Of Fasting. Check it out. I hope you are feeling better soon. Affectionately yours, Serena.
That’s awesome that you’re doing intermittent fasting! I am too and I also was raised in thinking breakfast is the most important meal. I don’t eat between 12-8pm and it has allowed me to lose weight which is also good for asthma. I’m also drinking water every 3 hours as I have an alarm on my phone to remind me. We don’t realize our lungs need a lot of water! I have also eliminated grains, sugar (which is so hard) not much alcohol and no dairy! It hasn’t been easy and I occasionally fall off the wagon but I feel so much better not eating those things. Besides we really do consume too much food anyway! Oh and I try to exercise more! I’m on Breo and when my asthma is well controlled I switch to Arnuity. I also take different herbs for respiratory support. Good luck to all.
Hi Sharaybia. See my response below to nurse ninja as you may want to try those tips to see if they help. I would notice that my breathing was difficult right after I ate so I realized after researching that my asthma was GERD/ACID REFLUX related and therefore I need to heal my gut!! I’m still working on it as I tend to slip sometimes. You may want to try intermittent fasting (it’s hard at first because we’re use to eating breakfast) but find something to do to keep your mind off of food and it a few weeks you won’t think about it. Also try the elimination diet and see how you feel. Good luck and stay well.
My acid reflux flares up bad and sometimes it seems as nothing working and its bad feeling. But i will try it thank u
Hi there! I don’t think I mentioned using Aloe Vera Juice (can get pills but I prefer the juice as it takes care of reflux fast) and DGL for acid reflux. I have found small meals/less food really help reduce asthma symptoms.
What are you talking for your asthma if you’re not using Breo? Thanks and take care! ♥️
Never heard of aloe vera juice but its a must try. But for my asthma i take my breathing treatment 4-6 hours as needed. I take prednisone when i have flare up. But on a daily base i take Ventolin, sprivia, symbicort, nucala.injection once a month. But if i get a cold the doctor would give me other medications take along with what im taking. I can only take certain things because im allergic to penicillin and barium. For my acid reflux i use tums or omeprazole. But i would also buy yogurt they said its good. Use 1% or 2% milk because i cant drink whole milk. They would say buy sugareless gum it helps settle your stomach acid. Eat a banana. I dont drink sodas i drink alot of water gatorade or gatorade zero vitamin water propel stuff like that.
Hi Sharaybia,
It must have been terrifying for you and your mom. Thank goodness mom took action immediately.
So happy you are doing better, and YAY mom! positive support is so important. Please do what the dr says and take care of you. Hope you’re feeling better soon.
I will be taking my 4th Nucala shot this month. I think it’s helping...but not sure, since I have COPD as well. I see my pulmonologist tomorrow. Managing my oxygen levels is on my list of questions.
Hang in there, you got this girl!
Michelle
Thank you very much and my biggest supporter is my mom and she jumps quick when im not feeling well. Thank you. This would be my 9th or 10 injection and it works great because once upon a time i stayed in hospital constantly and i had fears ill never be alright but with prayer and support and the man above im great. Still flare up but not as bad tho. Hope all is well with u and the nucala injections continue work for u. I go to palmetto infusion service in myrtle beach they are wonderful
Dear Sharaybia, sorry to hear of your scare. I have been on Nucala for 11 months. I still have flare-ups. The Nucala has helped with the thick mucus and inflammation. I still need the dreaded steroids. My flare-ups are usually caused by air pollution. I don't know how, but I think the bad air seeps in my home. My worse trigger is pneumonia or a virus. Takes months to get better. Glad you are doing better. I can't imagine how scary it would be for you whose oxygen drops to life threatening levels. I wear disposable masks with a p100 rating. This helps somewhat when in heavy traffic.
Thank you ive been doing my shots since august of 2019. They work but i had flare up when its mostly of weather changing. The weather changing bad in south carolina at moment and all this flooding not making it any better.but its very scary and u have no knowledge of whats going on. But hope all is well with u and hope things are going great for you as well
Hi Sharaybia. So sorry to hear about your on going exacerbations. I can't believe how scary that was. Your Mom sounds like a great lady. Nice she is around for you. Hopefully you will start to do better. Sending hugs.
