Hello, my name is Erin and this community seems to be a little quiet, so I thought I do post for people to just say hello and allow people to say a little bit about themselves. Just to let everyone know that you can post questions and post anything you feel is relevant if it is just a funny little poem that we might all relate to and cheer us all up.

So I will start the ball rolling

I'm a brittle asthmatic who lives in the UK, in England and I have a specialist respiratory consultant.

Last year I had around 18 severe asthma attacks that required paramedics out, a nebulizer treatments, and at least half of them involved a trip to the hospital. I'm on 4 different inhalers and 4 tablets currently.

Other medical conditions include acid reflux, tremors in hands (shakes) which brings along pain in my wrist when I'm writing in class and a bit of anxiety

I am a student who is currently studying to be a nurse, i've wanted to be a nurse since the age of 5.

Im currently trying to lose weight and become more active, i am going for loads of walks and my favourite thing about the walks is seeing all the cute dogs out and about.

I love dogs but can't have one due to being allergic to them.

Your turn, put as little or as much about yourself as you like

any questions for me fire away.

Hope this helps spur everyone up to get to know each other and make this forum a little more active.

Erin

I've had asthma and allergies since I was 8 and am now in my 40s and have grown into them instead of out of them like my pediatrician told me would happen (see that smirky smile on my face). I love dogs and sometimes cats and going for walks, scrapbooking in my basement and eating sugary snacks. So far everything I enjoy has created allergy and asthma issues and make it less enjoyable. I also am a social introvert but find it hard to socialize with people at church because of all the scents that make my head spin and my asthma act up.

I live in the Midwest - but lived in the eastern US growing up. Moving closer to the lake just made my allergies that much worse. Great - but it's so pretty here. I'm a teacher and love my job but also get sick lots - which makes me have to take more prednisone.

I am taking Spiriva and Symbicort, Singular (and Pulmicort and prednisone as needed) and whichever allergy meds are on sale this month. I also get a Nucala injection once a month (I just switched from 3 injections 2x a month of Xolair). I own my very own new nebulizer which makes slightly less noise than my old one and make sure to get the liquid albuterol filled monthly just in case. I carry a big purse so I can have my EpiPen (which I've never had to use, thank goodness) and my rescue inhaler and spacer with me wherever I go. I've only been to the ER two or three times for my asthma.

I've learned that my eating habits contribute to some asthma issues (as I love sugary snacks which instantly make my asthma worse). And I'm trying to find other exercises to do to keep from getting sick - which makes my breathing worse (except I just broke my toe so life is a little slow right now).

So Erin, do you have any pets? (besides the dust mites of course) My daughter has a betta fish and a nerlite snail and guess who cleans the tank?

Thx for replying to my post

I just thought it would be a good thing to spur conversation so we can get to know each other a bit better and get closer as a community hope this helps x

No I don't have any pets if I'd have any I'd have the one I'm allergic to I love dogs sooooo much and there are ones that are hypoallergenic dogs but can't afford one and live in a flat (apartment) so no garden

I feel the same I know some people who are / have grown out of their asthma and needing less and less meds and then there's me who is growing into it and needing more and more meds

I'm sorry to hear you have hard time with allergies

In the uk they try to avoid giving people home nebs the best they can unless someone's respiratory condition really requires it

If I need a neb I get an ambo along with hospitals sometimes

About being a social introvert I'm not the most out going person if I'm honest I feel comfortable on here because we're all in the same boat.

Thx Erin

Can't wait to get to know the rest of the community and be able to help each other along x
