Hi I am 37 and I have had CP all my live, I walk with crutch's but I can not walk that far.

It was hard to get a job but I am now in one (have been in the job for 2 and 1/2 years). But has any one else looking for job finding this really hard. It took me around 5 years to get this job.

Welcome to this group!

Glad you've got a job - it's a real boost! Even if you feel "underemployed", never take employment for granted!

I found and still find it very difficult to get a job. I studied law and faced direct discrimination from law firms. I have had to take a different direction and now I am doing a PhD on disability rights and employment law. I could have been a great solicitor but the law profession could not see beyond my disability. Welcome to the group. There is a programme on disability and employment called employable me on BBC 2 at 9pm on the 27th of November.

I now all about it, it took me 5 years to get me the job I am in (accounts) I went to over 50 interviews and they see my disability first when I know I can do the job.

It is so frustrating.

I can well imagine how frustrating this must seem certainly as you know full well that you are capable of doing the job. From my point of view I have been very lucky in that I have been in full time employment all of my life. Having said that I have always worked in big multinational companies who outlook towards disability has always been much more progressive than perhaps if I had worked in a smaller organisation. One thing that I would from interviewing many people over the years is that it’s important focus on what positive things that you can bring to the organisation and never to raise the issue of disability unless they ask you.
