Very interesting article! I can particularly relate to the difficulties in accessing physio and orthotics services. I only get physio when there's something not quite right, and then it's only a few sessions.... After I feel I'm just left to 'get on with it' under the guise of 'self managing my condition'. Which ok, I can do... But I feel that regular access to physio (and with the same physio) is important in helping me to self manage. Last time I had a few sessions of physio, we adapted my exercises and stretching regime and the physio I worked with said that she would prefer to see me regularly, as I do need help with some stretches and it's not always possible to get someone to help me, but the service doesn't have the budget for it.
Another point in the article that really struck a chord with me was about orthotics, I really have to fight just to get an appointment, and when I do I rarely see the same orthotist, so have to spend half the appointment discussing my history with them, then they often try and supply splints that aren't suitable for me... Often they're 'off the shelf, one size fits all' that just don't fit my requirements. I'm lucky in the fact that I am very experienced in using orthotics and can voice my concerns and eventually get what I need, but I really worry for the people that can't communicate their concerns, or just take what they are prescribed, believing that the orthotist knows best.
