liver biopsy
Hello Kaya,
There is an alternative route for a liver biopsy. Its the trans-jugular route.
This is where a very fine wire is introduced into the jugular vein in the neck. Its passed along the vein guided by x-ray until it reach inside the liver. There a small device is used to take a small sample.
I had both types of biopsy and really the easiest was the trans-jugular.
I cant say if that route would be suitable for you, but at least you are now aware.
Hope whatever happens, all goes well for you.
Jim
Thank you for your reply, i have been told today i am having the transjugular route, did the biopsy hurt at all and how long did the procedure take thanking you in advance
Kaya,
that's good news.
I had mine post transplant at the Royal Free. That I remember, the procedure took around half an hour and was easily better than the usual route.
Let them know exactly how nervous you are, that way they will know how much sedation you will need. Because of the sedation, the procedure seemed probably quicker than it was and I have no recollection of any pain, only 'pressure' in the neck.
I'm sure you will be fine and there really isn't anything to worry about.
Let me know how it goes
Jim
