LDN and thyroid

I'm currently taking 4.5 mg LDN morning and night. Besides Fibromyalgia, I'm also hypothyroid and am on natural dessicated thyroid pills. I've learned that LDN can also affect your thyroid so I'm wondering if I could possibly become hyperthyroid and what symptoms should I watch for.

Yes, LDN will affect your Thyroid. I highly recommend listening to the testimonials on the Trust's website about Hypothyroid and then having a conversation with your doctor. Here's a link, scroll down to hyperthyroid and Thyroid conditions: ldnresearchtrust.org/ldn-vi...

I've never heard of taking 4.5 both morning and night. Did your doctor prescribe this, or are you ordering it somewhere yourself?

I know LDN can help Hashimoto's, but I'm not sure if this is the reason you are hypothyroid. In the case of Hashimoto's, as a person takes LDN, the thyroid antibodies almost always decrease. As the thyroid heals, folks can be at risk to be taking to much replacement hormone. I've been on LDN 10 months and one antibody is down 60 points, and one is down 80 points. My Lupus symptoms are also about 80% better. I take 4.5 mg every night at 9:00 pm.

Improvement has been slow and steady and I'm hoping I will only continue to feel better and better and that you will too!

Some signs of high thyroid are fast heart rate and insomnia. There are probably more. I agree you should have a thorough discussion with your doctor.

Blessings!

Yes, I'm being monitored by my doctor. I believe the dosing morning and night was covered in The LDN Book and I started that on her advice. Experimenting. Just had a complete thyroid panel done a short time ago which we discussed and everything looks ok. So far. She did say to be aware of the hyperthyroid symptoms. Thanks and blessings to you as well.

Is anxiety another symptom? Or a side effect of LDN?

Hi Ratoncita ... I was on thyroid replacement for hypothyroidism for 19 years before realizing it was not helping, and actually causing a lot of my undiagnosed symptoms. Ignoring advice from numerous doctors, I dumped the bottle of pills in the garbage one day fall 2014. My body slowly started to feel a little better, though it took six months and as many blood tests to reveal my levels were actually stable without thyroid replacement. Symptoms still haunting me, I was finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia February 2018. I've been on LDN since then, and having experimented with numerous formulas and dosage, I now am taking a sublingual formula, about 2.25 mg (down from 4.5), before noon. My fibromyalgia symptoms and flares are down consistently about 80%. It's been a long haul, but LDN has literally saved my life. Be patient. Trust YOU, not what others (doctors) tell you. A book that helped me on my journey to trusting myself is Lissa Rankin's Mind Over Medicine. lissarankin.com/

What thyroid replacement drug were you on? Just curious.

Armour ... I ended up at the end with skin lesions that biopsied normal, disrupted sleep, nausea all night long.

Wow, really? Isn't that unusual? I'm on desiccated thyroid but it's not Armour. I don't think,we can get Armour in Canada.

Yes! Unusual for sure. I apparently didn’t need to be on thyroid replacement for so many years, but doctors refused to take me off because my numbers were good. It wasn’t until I took myself off and the numbers stayed normal that I realized I’d been poisoning myself.

Anxiety is unlikely a result of LDN since it normally helps to calm; it's used for PTSD. However, everyone is different. Nervousness and anxiety can be a symptom of hyperthyroidism.
