I don’t know if I am imagining this . I suffer from really bad arthritis on loads of meds but despite this I exercise keep fit Pilates and walking . I was wearing a garmin to track steps and I was following a slimming world diet . Often skipping meals using low fat products by the evening I would often pig out on bread or any carbs I could including loads of fruit . My weight seemed to consistently gain . I have ditched the garmin and have been on the LCHF for 1 week stopped obsessing about the number of steps 15000 . Terrified that not doing this would pile weight on even more . But yesterday after weigh in had lost weight and even more importantly my joints wrists and hands and others seem less painful .
I am prompted to write this after reading a recent post about low calorie exercise and inflammation . Not holding my breath but it really seems that the plan is helping my inflammation levels . Has any one else noticed this ?

Hi magienoire, great news about your weight loss well done, I have loads of pain in lots of parts of my body including my hands. I’ve been on LCHF eating plan since 18th/19th may. My pain is still the same I’m not saying it’s cause of what I am eating now but I have around 10 stone to lose, I’m not able to exercise because of the pain but I’m hoping that when I have lost a lot more I will try too.💐
Hi yes it is horrid isn’t it I find I have a constant pain which means mornings are not great it can take up to 2 hrs to get going . The flare ups are awful because that feels like flu with increased pain . It is a vicious cycle isn’t it the more you hurt the less you do and the weight doesn’t help the joint pain . Initially when I started Pilates I couldn’t do much but did a variation I think it has really helped although sometimes very difficult . Have you tried chair exercises to music . You have probably tried everything but don’t give up . I think our loss will be slow . It’s easy for people to say keep moving but when every day activities seem like a mountain because of pain it is difficult . I think small chunks an elephant is a big animal to eat . We will all support each other
Yes I’m very much the same my husband in my career.
when you tell doctors the pain your in, (it’s like are you sure) type of thing.
It makes me cross.
It was only yesterday a doctor said to me I need to try and do some getting up and sitting down exercise, with my hubbys help, I’ve hurt my good knee this morning and that was the second one I did this morning it’s just not fair.
But the good plus on this is forum is the support you get is second to none it really is. When I started my LCHF eating plan I really wasn’t sure it’s everything you’ve been told not to eat. But you I love my food and the fact I have lost 2stone 4lb is just staggering it really is, I’m never hungry and I’ve found that if I have a coffee and cream when I get up I can go till late morning/lunch and have brunch. We will do it like you said 💐💐
If you are looking for exercises have a look on You Tube. There are lots of chair based exercises videos on there and you can use them to build yourself up to doing “up and down” exercises. You Tube is my go to for exercises there are so many different ones - even chair based tai chi. It’s great when you find someone whose classes you like. Best wishes
Oh, sorry, I missed that bit. Still if you have a rummage around you might find something Interesting for when you are able to move more. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Wow that is amazing so well done . Yes Drs easily trip off the tongue about exercise . I think you doing brilliantly . You are right the fat fills you up .
It's something to just bear in mind if you ever do reintroduce gluten again - try to keep everything in your diet the same, except for bringing in gluten, and see if you do see your joints stiffen again. You don't need to do it now, just if you ever ease up in the future
I haven't personally noticed it, but a low carb diet does reduce inflammation.
Or maybe that should be a high carb diet, or at least one high in processed carbs, causes inflammation.
(I've got a friend who is beset with all sorts of nagging pain. I know a low carb diet would help her, but I also know she will not hear that from me. Not a chance she will give up bread and bananas)
Your experience is not uncommon. Obviously, I can't promise it's all going to turn out right, but as the Badger said, high-carb low-fat diets are reliably associated with general low-grade inflammation. This isn't even a matter of debate anymore - even mainstream medicine now basically accepts the idea. Yet they still keep wittering on about "healthy" low-fat diets.
I really hope LCHF at least provides some relief from your symptoms. Chronic pain is a terrible thing to have to live with.
It really is plus all the awful drugs . Let’s hope others feel the same as me . I realise that levels will increase with flair ups but anything to help and obviously less weight means less pressure on joints
I have a gluten intolerance (mild), so I have switched mainly to Sourdough, which has helped, also Brioche. I think the higher butter content in the Brioche helps to buffer the gut against the gluten, and the sourdough doesn't affect me so badly.
I have also found that eating from smaller plates tricks the mind into thinking it's getting more that normal, and slowing the pace of eating right down helps to get the 'full' signal before I've golloped everything.
I have a problem with fat. Due to gallstones and the removal of the gallbladder I take it very easy on meat fats and butter, using Olive oil as my main fat, and Salmon as my Oily fish.
No pies, biscuits or cakes.
Lockdown has done us no favours on the weight front, I was losing slowly but nicely, until I couldn't exercise outdoors. Oh well, Start again!
