Hello all 😊

I am looking into this way of eating and I get the low carb high fat ratio but am wondering where protein comes into it? I'm so conditioned that fat is bad I cant get my head around eating all those yummy fats!! πŸ˜‚ Any tips for a newbie? (I'm off to Tescos to get some cheese 😁)

TIA πŸ™‚

Protein doesn't come into it at all :)

You just eat whatever protein happens to come along with your meals. It's quite hard to overeat protein (it doesn't feel good) or undereat (unless you're vegan).

Oh ok thank you 😊 I've just had a quick look round Tescos and some of the things I thought I would be OK to eat with this, like peanut butter and full fat Yoghurt, are surprisingly high in carbs πŸ˜” I'm heading over to the daily diary to get some food ideas.

I know what you mean about having a little Jimminy Cricket on your shoulder saying, 'You're going to die eating all these fats,' - so hard to get rid of the brainwashing.

I read somewhere that you should have a moderate amount of protein whatever that means. But to my mind, you soon get so full with all the yummy fats that you don't need loads of protein anyway. And don't forget all the veg - loads of the right sort of veg.

As for yoghurt, make sure it is full fat and obviously not sweetened or fruity. I love Greek yoghurt but I'm only able to buy 0% and 5% fat in my local supermarket - it is small. However, Waitrose does it's own Greek Natural Strained Yoghurt. It's in a sort of beige carton and says No.1 on the container. 100g of yoghurt is 3.7g carbs which I reckon is a bargain as it tastes unbelievably delicious.

Have fun eating!!

If you want easy to read keto food ideas, look at dietdoctor.com, it has pictures of all the foods and how they fit in with the diet. Also on youtube, Dr Berg is great I think.

Let us know how you get on.

I'm with you on the cheese front, if I could make a frock of cheeses I would.... Actually knowing I can eat cheese if I want means I don't go stupid with it, I eat every different type too, put it in soups.... Cauliflower and blue cheese, yummy frittata with goats cheese, lost nearly 5Kg in 3 weeks eating all the foods I've been denying myself

It's great isn't it! The rest of the food is pretty much what I was eating anyway so I'm not giving anything up. I've been busy shopping as I saw a fab recipe for peanut butter snacks and I loooove peanut butter!! 😁

You actually do need some protein. You do not have to aim strongly for it and you do not have to overdo it but you should be having some at each meal. Cheese has protein and cheese even has a tiny bit of carb. Just like broccoli has some carb and a tiny bit of protein. A piece of meat or fish or chicken the size and thickness of the palm of your hand is usually correct. ( Big people need more, small people need less) Choose things you enjoy and don't worry about their fat content. Eggs are good sources of fat and protein. Nuts have some protein but are more in terms of a snack and not a meal. ( Cheese, also, should be a condiment, a snack, a addition, rather than the main feature.)

Oh cheese is my main feature. And the weight is dropping off me... 🀣
