Obesity? Diabetes?

In the Mail today:

'Hospitals where diabetes patients take up 1 in 4 beds.'

In amongst the piece was this by Tam Fry of the National Obesity Forum:

'People must remember that 90 per cent of these diabetic patients acquired the disease through being obese.'

Is that your take? For if it is it is totally, utterly wrong.

Obesity is a SYMPTOM of a broken metabolism, not a cause.

Think about it. There are no animal species on the planet, (outside those in the thrall of humans feeding pets), who are obese or diabetic. Ever seen a fat sparrow (hawk) /Aardvark /fox/wolf/deer...?

However, there is an epidemic of diabetes and obesity among domestic cats.

Why?

Because their loving owners feed them the same rubbish their owners feed themselves - refined carbohydrate. In the cat case, dry food. Feed an obligate carnivore carbohydrate voila - kidney failure! (Been there by the way).
