So, now I am a little confused. Is there a test to confirm if platelets are being destroyed, as opposed to the platelet production being low? Someone posted that if low production is the issue, it is not ITP. I know promacta 12.5mg and vit D are keeping me around 80. Any thoughts?

A Bone Marrow Biopsy/test will show if there is any problem in platelets being produced and will also show any abnormality in bone marrow function including red and white cell production.
Here is a useful link explaining more about it - nhs.uk/conditions/biopsy/wh...
Hope this helps.
A bone marrow biopsy will be able to tell your doctor if you are producing platelets. Usually ITP is a case of the immune system destroying the platelets but there are some cases of ITP where production is the issue.
Yes indeed, and of course, there are a number of ITP sufferers who may also have other medical issues including other auto immune illnesses which may be hampering platelet production or assisting destruction.
True. And I think Secondary vs. Primary ITP plays a role in all of this. But that gets a bit complicated for this question and answer format. I would encourage the original poster to research that as well. Sometimes "ITP" isn't truly immune mediated, and then, is it truly ITP?
