I read that blueberries can lower the platelets. If so, is it also bad to give my child strawberries? And what other fruits that are safe for me to give him? Thank you!

Where did you read that blueberries lower the platelet counts in a medical journal or the internet? I know that large doses of Omega 3 interferes with platelet function increasing frequency and severity of bruising, which is bleeding, thus using up platelets to stop the bleeding and decrease the counts. I haven’t read anything regarding blueberries or strawberries, please sent reference. Thanks;)

I have had luck increasing my platelets by eating pumpkin pie filling. I put honey and cinnamon in it. I eat it cold. I eat two heaping table spoons of it each day. Give that a try.

kyriak .. your so right about the omega 3s .. i was taking them for years ( 10k mg. a day ) maybe that's what gave me ITP ?? anyway recently i started back up with the omega 3s and my platlets dropped by 20 k so i eliminated the 3s and they went right back up .. wish i would have known years ago ... make all know that ! god post .. jimmy

Thank you for the pdsa site, I’ve learned a great deal about foods in addition fish oils with high Omega 3 levels that have potential to interfere with platelet function; to my surprise the majority of foods listed are amongst my favorites. Be well:) Georgia
