Not really low, comparitivlely?

About a year ago, I had a bad cough, that lasted 4 months. It was a deep, congested cough, with a lot of phlegm. I ended up going to a pulmonologist, who diagnosed me with asthma. At 57, I have never had it before this. At the same time, my platelets were 124,000. Right now, they are up to 132,000. I had been on antibiotics, and prednisone. Now, I use BREO every day, and a rescue inhaler. I also recently went on Metformin for type 2 diabetes. All related or not? As long as my platelets don't drop below 50,000, they're not worried about it? Should I be worried, is this pretty normal? Why are they low anyway?!

I’ve been on Nplate weekly injections to maintain my platelets between 30 to 80 thousand however they drop as low as 10 thousand during illnesses, increased stress or depression. The goal of of my treatment is to maintain my platelets at 50 thousand so I try to maintain a healthy life style and avoid stress and illnesses which is not easy. I would kill to have a count of 124 to 132 thousand; you have a lot going on now which would explain the fluctuations in your counts. Take care stay positive have a good laugh; laughter strengthens your immune system to fight off minor injections such as colds/flu by increasing the number of WBC’s. Be well:) Georgia

Were they those numbers without any treatmet or while you were on treatment? I'm pretty sure that ITP is not diagnosed unless your count falls under 100 (i think that that is the new definition of thrombocytopenia). I know that when I get over 100 they tell me I am in complete remission. But if it still worries you (or if I misunderstood and your counts are like that because of treatment) people don't treat until the number drops under 30, and some not even then, but based off of their symptoms (if they dont have petechiae or bruising they dont treat)..

I have been afflicted with tinitis, hearing loss and vision loss which can, evidently, be caused by low blood platelets. Mine went down to 22. Scary what this condition can cause.
