Can I ask about experiences of using Eltrombopag and more specifically about the dietary require that should be considered?
I'm not the patient but am Mum to our 13 year old who is the patient. Count was 38 last week and she's just had bloods today. A drop below will likely be the catalyst for Eltrombopag.
Many thanks as ever.

I've been taking Eltrombopag for over a year now to control my platelet levels. I've been fortunate as I've not suffered any serious side effects.
No dietary requirements as such... other than no dairy products or gastric medication (gaviscon) 4 hours before and 4 hours after taking. The leaflet you'll get with the drug indicates that it could effect the absorption of the drug. I normally take mine around 8pm.
Good luck and hopefully your wee one won't be on it for too long xx
My platelet count was 13 and on a on a downward trend to its low point of 2 when I started Eltrombopag 2 1/2 years ago. I eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruit, veg and have low alcohol consumption. I don't really avoid anything until 7pm when I avoid dairy products as I take my Eltrombopag at bed time.
The Eltrombopag has kept my platelets at a safe level for 2 1/2 years with no side effects. I lead a normal active life
In USA they tell you no dairy 2 hours before and after, so I usually take it after lunch and before dinner. I eat lunch at like 12, take elthrombopag around 3, and do not eat dinner until at least 5:30. It is very effective when taken properly. If you have concerns about side effects, just have them monitor the liver function which is really the only organ that could be affected significantly.
