Scared

My ITP was triggered by my daughters birth. At this moment I am in maternity leave. But I will go back to the job very soon. I'm so scared of this. How influence/affect ITP your job and your lives? Do you make the same job as you did before ITP? Many thanks!

Don't be scared. It's an adjustment of thinking.. that's all. Unless your job requires heavy lifting and hard manual labour, (bumping or sharp machinery) you shouldn't be worried at all. I know it's scary but you need to live your life as normal as possible and continue checking up with your blood work and your doctors advices... This group is great as well. I have 2 children and I was diagnosed with ITP on Nov. 2015 after my second daughter's birth. I went through the same thing you did and was scared and worried about life but I had to adjust my attitude towards my ITP. Don't worry too much and listen to your body..not your numbers.. I'm thinking about you.

Dont be scared. Xx

Hi Deniss. My Itp was discovered at the end of my 2nd pregnancy. My daughter is soon to turn 10 and I have not made many life changes because if the Itp. Each persons journey can be so different to another and though you may land on this crazy Itp ride with a bump, things may hopefully even out and you will learn to read the signs yr body gives you and gain some control. I have been lucky in that my situation is a case of monitoring and I (thankfully) have not needed treatment. I have cut things from my diet - green tea, caffeine energy drinks and nurofen are definite no-nos... but still swim, gym and regularly fly UK to New Zealand.

Try not to worry too much on your return to work, your body should give you signs if it's too much for you. You are the best judge of what you can do, just keep an open mind.

Good luck for your journey 😊

Hi! And what's wrong with green tea?

Hi Magone7!

I believe that although green tea doesn't affect platelet counts, it can affect clotting and I did used to drink loads.

This link to PDSA website can be helpful.

I still eat and drink some of the items on the list (everything in moderation) but if I have a count drop or long lasting nose bleed I would check the list to see if there might be a culprit on the list I have possibly over-indulged in ... Thankfully chocolate seems to be ok for me... whew! 😊

Good to see you're becoming an old hand at dealing with your ITP... and able to give reassurance to new group members xx
