My 8 year old daughter has had ITP with a very low count for several years. I have just been told that her white blood count (neutophil) is also too low. Can anyone tell me what this means? Does it mean she could have lupus?

ITP and low white blood count

No it doesnt mean she has lupus. Quite often when somebody has an autoimmune disease they often end up with more. Low neutrophils often occur in ITP i developed immune neutropenia along side itp and have had it for 17 years. It is important to monitor when they are low to watch out for infection as it can prevent the body form fighting off bacterial infections.
I have had low neutrophils in the past and it was secondary to the medication I was taking. Once I gradually came off them, my neutrophils were normal again (that was 5 years ago and have been stable since).
It may be a transient thing. When I was first diagnosed I had a low white cell count too but this normalised over time. Best of luck to you and your daughter x
